Cornish Seal Sanctuary

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

Charming animal encounters await…

You’ll get up close and personal with a host of wildlife on a day out at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. Set in 40 acres of beautiful Cornish countryside in the village of Gweek, this is the only fully operational seal rescue centre in Cornwall.

Come face-to-face with resident seals, otters, penguins and sea lions as they swim, play and feed. The endangered Humbolt penguins come all the way from the shores of Chile and Peru where it’s estimated less than 10,000 pairs survive.

Visit the seal rescue hospital and learn how rescued seals are cared for. The aim is to return all seals to the wild, but some are so badly injured they can’t go back. Flipper had his lungs damaged so badly by marine pollution that he’s now a permanent Sanctuary resident, along with a bevvy of pals.

Meet rescued land animals including Shetland ponies and Suffolk sheep, too. And hold live crabs and starfish at the interactive rockpool — learning what to look for when you’re back on the beach. If you're looking for things to do in Cornwall to keep the kids entertained, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary offers a great day out for all the family.
