SUMMARY:Summer activity days at St Austell Leisure Centre
DESCRIPTION:An exciting range of activity days are being lined up for school children at St Austell Leisure Centre this summer. \nAvailable to young people born on or before 31 August 2012 and up to Year 7\, the activity days will be packed full of sports and fun exercise including dodgeball\, basketball\, netball\, rounders\, hockey\, team games\, challenges and more. There will also be swimming available for those over the age of 8. \nEach day will run from 8.30am to 4pm at a cost of £14.50 for Better Members and £17 for non-members. SUMMARY:Cornish summer tasting event - The Greenbank
DESCRIPTION:The Alverton Hotel in Truro and The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth have teamed up to offer a series of summer events that celebrate the best of Cornish food and drink. \nOn selected days throughout the summer the two hotels will offer customers the chance to meet the chefs\, watch food being carefully prepared and cooked\, and indulge in six courses of Cornish cuisine with an accompanying drinks flight. \nThe sister hotels combine city and coast and these influences have shaped the menu by showcasing speciality dishes from each hotel. The menu features only Cornish food and drink from the very best local suppliers\, including Camel Valley Vineyard\, Matthews Stevens\, Duchy Game\, Curds & Croust\, Stevenson Newlyn\, L George Butchers and Tregothnan tea. \nThe first event takes place on Thursday 26th July at The Greenbank and is held at The Alverton two weeks later on Thursday 9th August. The next event is on Thursday 23rd August at The Greenbank and again at The Alverton on Thursday 6th September. Each event starts at 7pm for canapes and welcome drinks and costs £55 per person. DESCRIPTION:Cornish Music Comes Alive \nMike O’Connor and the Hantergantic Quartet will give an illustrated talk on Music in Cornwall 1735-1850 at 6 pm on 23 August 2018. \nMike O’Connor is a musician and storyteller who works nationwide. Mike lives in St. Ervan and has made the culture of Cornwall very much his own. He has done extensive research into early Cornish music and was central to the discovery and publication of the manuscripts of John Giddy and John Old. In 2002 he was made a Bard of the Gorsedh of Cornwall for services to Cornish music. \nWith musical friends he now brings this music to life in a hugely entertaining illustrated talk. \nThis lively programme takes us from about 1737 to 1850 through the medium of manuscripts found in Cornwall. \n£7.
