SUMMARY:Witches’ Afternoon Tea at The Headland
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, the spooktacular Witches’ Afternoon Tea is back on the menu at The Headland Hotel in Newquay this October. \nBased on one of Roald Dahl’s most popular books\, ‘The Witches’ film has gained a huge following since its release in 1990\, achieving classic status. The Headland famously featured as the Hotel Excelsior where the witches hatched their evil plot to kill children by turning them into mice - making it the perfect setting to delve into some delicacies inspired by the film. \nThose tucking into this foodie tribute can expect to enjoy pumpkin scones with lashings of clotted cream and jam\, candied mice (that may or may not have previously been children!)\, chocolate witches’ hats\, gruesome jelly shots and much more – all accompanied by traditionally served loose-leafed teas. \nAvailable throughout October from 3 – 6pm each day\, the Witches’ Afternoon Tea costs £19 per adult (with a minimum of two people) and £10 per child. Pre-booking is essential. \nFor more information please visit the website or call 01637 872211 to book.

DESCRIPTION:The Cornwall Garden Society’s (CGS) annual lecture series launches this October with two talks by passionate plant enthusiast\, Michael Stephens. \nMichael was a teacher for many years but in retirement\, he lectures on a wide variety of gardening topics throughout Devon and Cornwall. \nUntil a recent house move\, he opened his garden at Coombegate Cottage near Liskeard for the National Garden Scheme (NGS) each spring and ran a small private nursery. \nMichael also paints and writes\, and contributes a regular Country Notebook column to The Western Morning News. \nKnow Your Onions will be his subject on Tuesday 9th October at 7.30pm (after the CGS AGM\, which begins at 7pm) at the Burrell Theatre\, Truro School\, whilst Have a Wonderful Winter Garden will be his focus on Wednesday 10th October at 2.30pm at Trethorne Leisure Park\, Launceston. \nThese lectures are free for CGS members. Non-members are welcome to attend to find out more about the Society and donations are gratefully received. \nA local nursery will be on hand to tempt attendees with high quality plants for sale and pre-lecture refreshments will be available at the evening lecture from 6.30pm. \nThe CGS is a charity that exists to encourage and improve the science\, art and practice of horticulture in all its branches; share knowledge about gardening and Cornwall’s rich garden heritage\, and conserve the county’s natural environment. The Society is affiliated to the RHS and its Patron is HRH The Prince of Wales. \nFor further information about the CGS\, please visit the website\, follow @CwllGardenSoc on Twitter or like facebook.
