SUMMARY:The John Rapson Gallery to re-open
DESCRIPTION:The John Rapson Gallery to re-open after seven months with a brand-new exhibition. \nLiskeard & District Museum on Pike Street\, Liskeard are re-opening the Rapson Gallery on the first floor of the museum in Foresters Hall on Friday 20th March. This is following a refurbishment project which began in September 2025. \nThe gallery\, which is dedicated to the late John Rapson\, a well-known photographer in the town\, Cornish bard\, and supporter of the Museum\, will be showcasing much of his work in a new exhibition titled: In Reflection: Photographs\, Peacemakers\, and Pacifist Emily. \nAlongside photographs\, the exhibition will also feature large paintings of Leonard and Catherine Courtney\, and a tribute to Emily Hobhouse on the centenary of her passing in a form of a beautifully curated installation produced by the Story of Emily\, St Ive. \nThe new exhibition has been made possible thanks to the Museum Development South West “Small Open Grant” and “On Display!” Grant\, Arts Council England\, support from Liskeard Town Council\, the Story of Emily\, visitor donations\, and finally - the tireless work of the museum’s dedicated team of volunteers. \nThe museum will be hosting several events in the coming weeks to celebrate the opening of the new gallery\, including a visit from Iris Photography South West (Tuesday 7th April) – inviting the visitors to have their eyes’ irises photographed\, and a family-friendly workshop from Lore and Piece Archaeology (Thursday 9th April) showing children how cameras help to record finds. Volunteer-run in-house workshops are also to be expected. \nDetails of all the workshops and more information about the John Rapson gallery can be found on the museum’s website. \nLiskeard and District Museum is open Monday-Friday 10am-4pm (except bank holidays) and Saturday’s 10am-1pm. Entry is free\, donations welcome and dogs on leads are also welcome to visit.
