SUMMARY:Dele Sosimi & Afrobeat Orchestra LIVE
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 12th October 7:30pm & Sunday 13th October 1pm \nThe Eco Park is proud and superbly excited to welcome back the legend: Dele Sosimi\, the UK's multiple award-winning Afrobeat Ambassador who has been consistently flying the Afrobeat flag in the UK since 1995\, for not one\, but two performances across the weekend on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th October. \nFor the first time ever\, Mount Pleasant Eco Park are hosting two live performances. The first is a late-night party with all the usual Eco Park vibes\, top DJs and vegetarian meals. Followed by a family friendly performance on Sunday afternoon. \nTim Stirrup\, the Eco Park director said “It’s rare for such great Afrobeat performers to make their way to Cornwall\, so we didn’t want anyone to miss out. A lot of our customers can’t make the evening gigs as they have young families.” \nDele began his career when he joined Fela’ Anikulapo-Kuti’s Egypt 80\, where he played keyboards for 7 years and toured extensively around the world. Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was the founder of the style of Afrobeat. The music is a blend of complex but highly danceable funk grooves\, Nigerian traditional music (including hi-life)\, African percussion\, underpinning the jazz horns and solos from other instruments\, as well as rhythmical singing. \nTim added “We hope to inspire the next generation of musicians by giving them the opportunity to see some of the best musicians in the country right now. Dele's Orchestra comes with a full horn section and kids will be blown away by the powerful performance. But let's not forget\, the parents will get to see a top band who they may not have had a chance to catch due to family commitments” \nDele’s pulsating live shows demonstrate his vision of Afrobeat - one that is faithful to the original blueprint\, but also clearly bears Dele’s own DNA\, expanding the horizons of the genre. A true pioneer\, he is accompanied on stage by a 6-piece band\, serving up an unforgettable mix of grooves over a 2 hour long set that will ignite the beginning of winter in style! \nSupport comes from top Afrobeat DJs on both the Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Be quick to get your tickets as this will sell out. Cabana Cafe will be open over the weekend serving a delicious pre-gig meal with Vegan and Vegetarian dishes being served up. \nAdvance tickets for both gigs are available online now on the website or by calling the Eco Park office on 01209 891500\, Tuesday – Friday during office hours. Doors open from 7:30pm on Saturday 12th and 1pm on Sunday 13th. Cabana Café will be open\, serving a delicious Vegan/Vegetarian Supper on the night.

SUMMARY:SIXTEEN
DESCRIPTION:22 JUN  — 28 SEP 2019\nTHE ENGINE ROOM AT THE EXCHANGE \nWhat is it like to be sixteen years old in the UK now? This is the central thread running through the national project Sixteen where some of the UK’s foremost documentary portrait photographers collaborated in opening up conversations with young people about their hopes and fears\, and who or what sustains them\, giving prominence to voices rarely heard. \nHere we highlight one of them\, Michelle Sank\, who focused her lens on Cornwall\, drawn by an interest to explore how the economic poverty and physical isolation of the county impacts on the future of its young people. \nSank felt privileged by the connection she was able to form with her subjects and their families/guardians\, who generously shared their stories\, the social and family structures and domestic surroundings within. Having access in this way enabled her to understand the social challenges that were previously hidden.

SUMMARY:EUROPE AFTER THE RAIN
DESCRIPTION:22 JUN – 12 OCT 2019\nNEWLYN ART GALLERY \nThe international group exhibition\, curated by Simon Faithfull\, presents dystopian terrains and possible landscapes to come. \nTaking its title from Max Ernst’s 1942 surrealist painting Europe After The Rain\, the exhibition explores a future environment where things have evolved\, or devolved\, into a strange new state. Though out of this catastrophe\, there may be optimism. While some of the works consider normal things from our everyday world (such as caravans or ski-slopes) when framed within the wider context of the exhibition these works become artefacts within a collective dream – a dream of an imagined landscape to come. \nPresenting painting\, sculpture and film installation\, exhibiting artists will include\, among others\, Larry Achiampong\, Peggy Atherton\, Karin Bos\, Crowe & Rawlinson\, Nick Laessing\, Onya McCausland\, Melanie Manchot\, Rebecca Partridge and Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay. \nEurope After The Rain runs parallel to Fathom\, a solo show of film and photography by Simon Faithfull at The Exchange\, exploring where land meets sea and man’s place in it.

SUMMARY:FATHOM
DESCRIPTION:15 JUN – 05 OCT 2019\nTHE EXCHANGE \nA solo exhibition of film and photographic work by Berlin-based artist Simon Faithfull. \nA new film work\, Re-enactment for a Future Scenario no.2: Cape Romano\, was shot in the water-bound ruins of a futuristic beach house off the coast of Florida. Following two hurricanes\, the remaining domes are visible above water but now 50m from the shore\, highlighting the continuing shifting of boundaries. \nOther works present lone figures in unlikely landscapes; a man striding slowly but purposefully over the seabed\, and a silver-suited figure who time and again boards a burning plane\, surviving in a landscape consumed by another element\, fire. \nFaithfull has also curated an international group exhibition\, Europe After The Rain\, at Newlyn Art Gallery. Inspired by Max Ernst’s 1942 surrealist painting\, the exhibition presents dystopian terrains and imagined landscapes to come.
