SUMMARY:Open-air theatre: Much Ado About Murder
DESCRIPTION:Dates & times: Tuesday 16th August at 7pm \nJoin us for an exciting open-air performance of Much Ado About Murder by Peter Mimmack with Heartbreak Productions in collaboration with Create at Bedruthan. \nSituated on our spectacular meadow at Bedruthan Hotel\, overlooking the sea\, our outdoor theatre performances have been encaptivating both children and grown-ups for years. \nDon your detective cap and join Heartbreak Productions for some super silliness this summer. Our original murder mystery will set five suspects under the spotlight\, and we will depend on the audience to find answers. Who was lurking in the corridor carrying a candlestick? When did the third gunshot go off – before or after the very silly song? And probably most importantly\, why didn’t you pack a larger picnic? \nAnswers to these and other equally important questions will only be uncovered as we make Much Ado About Murder (an original murder mystery by Heartbreak Productions\, performed\, as are all our shows\, out of doors\, so check the weather\, dress appropriately\, and bring a picnic). \nBring your picnic blankets\, chairs and sun cream (fingers crossed) and settle in for a mysterious tale amidst the backdrop of the crashing Atlantic waves. \nPlease note: There is no parking available on site. Please park at Mawgan Porth Beach car park (Sat Nav: TR8 4BA) and walk up to the hotel via the entrance on Tredragon Road\, or along the coastal path. Drop off is possible\, although please be aware that Tredragon Road is narrow and mainly residential. \nTickets can be found here >

SUMMARY:King Lear
DESCRIPTION:Location: Various locations across Cornwall all summer \nThis summer\, Miracle Theatre presents Shakespeare’s most elemental and passionate play at elemental outdoor venues across Cornwall. King Lear is an exquisitely dark tale about a family squabble that grows out of all proportion\, blowing up into a storm of deadly force. \nThis fresh and fast-paced adaptation of Shakespeare’s text – pared down to its bare essentials – tells a shocking\, yet tender\, story of ageing and madness\, fuelled by ambition and fired by betrayal. Shakespeare loved to weave theatrical magic out of tragedy in a way that is never far from farce\, making King Lear ripe for Miracle’s unique treatment! \nFind out more >

SUMMARY:Creative Connections Cornwall
DESCRIPTION:Creative Connections Cornwall is a project about people and place in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery\, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange and Mount’s Bay Academy in Penzance \nThe project connects young people from Cornwall with the award-winning artist\, Joy Gregory\, to explore the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection. Together\, Joy Gregory and the students collaboratively responded to portraits of notable people from or with links to Cornwall and Penzance. \nThe chosen works range from photography to painting and drawing and include portraits by artists such as Michael Ayrton\, Terry Frost\, Yvonne Gregory\, John Hedgecoe\, E. O. Hoppé\, Ida Kar\, Sebastian Kim\, Man Ray and Madame Yevonde. Sitters include Wilhelmina Barns-Graham\, Gluck\, Barbara Hepworth\, Helen Glover\, William Golding\, D.H. Lawrence\, Daphne du Maurier and Harold Wilson. \nDuring an initial visit to Mount’s Bay Academy in May 2021\, the students selected portraits from the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection. The young people’s choices were based on aesthetic considerations – did they like the portrait image – and whether they felt interested in an individual’s biography\, but also addressed issues like representation and language. \nTheir final selection of portraits includes painters\, writers\, potters\, actors\, politicians\, athletes\, musicians and more\, and forms the starting point for the exhibition\, which will be shown to the public for the first time at The Exchange this summer. \nTogether with Joy Gregory\, the now Year 10 students have made new work\, exploring the shared themes and connections between those portrayed in selected artworks and the students themselves. They looked at how these might be linked to localities in Cornwall and the places the young people are growing up in. The results from this collaboration are shown alongside the portraits from the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection that inspired them.

SUMMARY:Dominie Hooper – Anno Tour June 2022
DESCRIPTION:Dominie Hooper is an artist with a voice that pushes forth depth\, joy and human darkness with arresting honesty. Her songs dissect identity\, sexuality\, shame\, and survival with an ever-present sense of solidarity and optimism. Her sound draws from English folk\, classical music\, alt-rock\, and avant-garde pop\, defying easy categorisation and pushing at the boundaries of standard folk and singer-songwriter fare. \nANNO is Hooper’s first release with a headline tour of England\, as she strikes out solo to present a body of work that draws from the springs of her native Dartmoor\, while signposting to an alternative and electrified future. \nHaving shared stages with the likes of Yola\, Alabaster Deplume\, and BBC Folk Award winner Ríoghnach Connolly as a collaborator and session musician\, Hooper brings experience\, pedigree\, and industry respect to the table along with searing talent and authenticity. \nNow\, after a period of writing\, developing\, and expanding\, Hooper’s long awaited and highly anticipated move to a solo career takes flight. \nShe tours with her band through June 2022 to perform songs from her forthcoming debut EP ANNO\, which was recorded over four days in Dec 2021 with Joel Magill at Wicker Studios in Welling - the same house-studio in which Kate Bush recorded Hounds of Love in 1985. It features Hooper's hand-picked collaborators; Corrie Dick (from Mercury-nominated Dinosaur) on drums\, Mikey Kenney (who also plays with Vinicio Capossela) on fiddle\, Phil Self (from Molly’s Lips\, Cocos Lovers) on guitars\, electric bass\, and keys\, with Hooper fronting the line-up on electric guitar\, cello and lead vocals. \nANNO announces the start of a new journey\, a farewell to a past self and a strapping in for an altogether bigger ride. Everything changes. Nothing lasts. The year of the world is now. \nDominie is playing: Wednesday 8th June\, The Cornish Bank\, 34 Church St. Falmouth. TR11 3EF.  Doors: 19:30. Tickets: £3.75-£9.15. \nGet in touch >

SUMMARY:Open-air theatre: David Walliams' Awful Auntie
DESCRIPTION:Dates & times: Saturday 7 May at 2pm and 6pm (and) Sunday 8 May at 2pm \nJoin us for an exciting open-air performance of David Walliams’ Awful Auntie by Heartbreak Productions in collaboration with Create at Bedruthan. \nSituated on our spectacular meadow at Bedruthan Hotel\, overlooking the sea\, our outdoor theatre performances have been encaptivating both children and grown-ups for years. \nAwful Auntie by David Walliams \nThe new playground at the Saxby Hall Orphanage is finally complete\, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. The orphanage was founded by Stella Saxby\, who some of you may remember. Her parents were killed in a car crash in 1933\, leaving her an orphan\, all alone with her Awful Auntie. And when we say awful\, we mean awful. Aunt Alberta and her best friend Wagner\, a vicious Bavarian owl\, tried everything they could to torment Stella into signing over the deed to Saxby Hall. But Stella\, with the help of her friend Soot (the ghost of a chimney sweep\, but friends come in all shapes and sizes\, don’t they?) fought off Aunt Alberta\, saved Saxby Hall\, and gifted the beautiful Saxby Hall to be used as an orphanage. \nAwful Auntie by David Walliams\, adapted for the outdoor stage by Heartbreak Productions\, is a truly thrilling tale. Owls\, ghosts\, chases\, escapes\, motorcycle rides\, and tiddlywinks all fill Stella’s days as she evades her menacing Aunt and saves the family home. So\, please join us at the dedication of the new playground at Saxby Hall and hear how it all came about. \nBring your picnic blankets\, chairs and sun cream (fingers crossed) and settle in for a thrilling adventure amidst the backdrop of the crashing Atlantic waves.

DESCRIPTION:Princess Pavilion: 27-29 April \nPorthtowan at the Eco Park: 11-21 May \nMiracle Theatre presents Everyman\, adapted by Carol Ann Duffy. \nEveryman is riding high\, works hard\, and plays harder. We have set up a dedicated Just Giving page\, and we kindly ask you to support us by donating any amount you can\, big or small. \nAny donation you make will go directly to supporting Port Isaac breakwaters\, an infrastructure essential to the survival of this small coastal community. \nPlus\, every penny donated will spur our team on to succeed in our challenge \nWhy not come along and give your support to our dedicated rowers. Don’t forget your trainers… we would love it if you would like to do a stint on our second rowing machine. 10\, 15\, 30 or 60 minutes – however long you can manage to help us row home to Port Isaac by 8pm. Whether you have a window box\, a flower border or a vast outdoor space\, we hope you will gather your green-fingered family members and friends\, and join us for what promises to be a weekend filled with flowers\, fun and everything that is magical about Cornwall at this time of year.” \nTickets for the Show are £13.50 in advance or £15 on the gate (card payments only).  To book\, click here. \nFree admission for under 16s. SUMMARY:Care Takers
DESCRIPTION:A new series of work by Hannah Waldron\, an artist working predominantly with weaving\, from her studio at Potager\, near Constantine. \n“Care Takers is a body of work that has been produced slowly over the course of a year whilst I have been taking care of my new baby daughter. The act of care-taking became at the forefront of everything for me this year\, yet when looking at the numerous acts of care taking place in society and nature\, they are so often overlooked and fade into the background of what is valued. I wanted to use this opportunity to bring my attention to and celebrate acts of taking care within my environment; from nature based observations in the garden at my studio\, to unseen ways in which care taking and nourishing interaction occurs in nature\, for example underground mycelium networks\, through to the process of handweaving itself. \nThese new series of weavings have been produced on a small handloom\, using yarn dyed with natural dyes including woad\, madder and weld\, and embroidered at intervals on long walks around Falmouth whilst my daughter was sleeping.” \nHannah Waldron – Jan 2022 \nAll works are for sale.

SUMMARY:Simple Truths
DESCRIPTION:Simple Truths is part of Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange’s New Voices Programme\, which gives a platform to members of the community not often heard\, through the curation of works selected from the Arts Council Collection. \nThe artworks for Simple Truths have been chosen by dads from the WILD Young Parents Project\, who the gallery has been working with since March 2021\, from their allotment in Pengegon\, Camborne. \nWith each visit to the allotment the dads were asked to select an artwork from the Arts Council Collection catalogues\, which were kept in the allotment shed. Marking their choices with a Post-it note and a line about why they’d chosen it\, an interesting collection of works has steadily formed. Choices reflect how the dads were feeling in that moment or spoke of a past experience or of future ambitions. Over a brew from a ghillie kettle\, conversation flowed\, exploring their choices and often providing the starting point for personal reflections around mental health or what was happening in their lives in that moment. \nSimple Truths includes paintings\, photographs\, and sculptures by:\nDavid Batchelor / Maeve Brennan / Shezad Dawood / Seamus Nicolson / Richard Patterson / Liv Preston / Bob Robinson / Caroline Walker / Bedwyr Williams \nAn Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme Exhibition\, curated by dads from the WILD Young Parents Project. \nNewlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange is an Arts Council Collection National Partner.
