A prequel to the hugely successful TV series Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon has once again thrown Cornwall’s stunning landscape into the limelight with some of its scenes having been filmed here.
St Michael’s Mount
Used as the location for High Tide on the island of Driftmark in episode 5 as well as the backdrop for most of the action in episode 7 (both in the grounds and castle itself), St Michael’s Mount is well worth a visit.
Accessible by foot when the tide is out, this imposing castle seems to rise up from the seabed 400 yards offshore.
Holywell Bay
Chosen as the background to the punishments to the sailors of Craghas 'The Crabfeeder' Drahar as well as the War of the Stepstones, Holywell Bay has once again found itself in the spotlight.
Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy (Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen) were also spotted here filming a beach scene.
Not far from the popular beachside town of Newquay, Holywell Bay offers a stunning stretch of golden sand that is dog friendly all year round. One of Cornwall’s most scenic beaches, it’s a beautiful place to explore.
Kynance Cove
The filming location for the Stepstones of Westeros where Daemon Targaryen launches his offensive, it is also the backdrop to the Valyrian Camp as they prepare for the War of the Stepstones.
Kynance Cove is famed for its picturesque scenery, white sand and clear waters – however it can get very busy so choosing the right time to visit is essential.
