Cold, crisp and magical – Cornwall offers beauty, excitement and festive fun during the winter months.
Storm watching
Witness the drama and excitement of a winter storm in Cornwall. Exposed to the weather systems rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean, the county is often subjected to gale force winds and huge rolling waves - creating a dramatic spectacle as they crash against the Cornish coastline.
Whilst there are many great places to storm watch throughout Cornwall, it is often the places where the sheer magnitude of these waves in action can be truly appreciated that offer the best vantage points. Porthleven or Penzance are great places to start, having provided the locations for some of the most famous storm shots taken over the years. Just remember that safety always comes first and care should always be taken.
Roaring fires and cosy evenings in
The waves are battering the rugged coastline, the air is crisp and cold and rain knocks on the window – a perfect Cornish winter evening to head to your local friendly pub, relax next to the welcoming open fire and enjoy a warming meal with friends or family.
Prefer to stay in? Sounds good to us - get your slippers on, stoke up the wood burner and settle in for a cosy evening in front of the fire with a hot drink. What could be more relaxing than that?
Crisp walks
The ground crunches beneath your feet as you tread softly through the silver frost sparkling in the winter sunlight, the air is crisp and cold, and the surroundings are calm and quiet. Cornwall is beautiful in the winter and there’s no better way to explore and experience it than on foot.
Head off along the coastal footpaths to view the rolling winter waves, explore the wild moorland landscapes or head into the countryside and enjoy the varied sights and sounds that it can offer at this time of year.
