Visit the new exhibition at Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penzance showcasing the work of one of the central figures of the Newlyn School art colony, Fred Hall (1860 – 1948).
‘Fred Hall: From Newlyn School to Caricature’ features a selection of his greatest paintings, many of which have been borrowed from public and private collections especially for this exhibition. It maps his stylistic development, from melancholy rural realist masterpieces such as ‘In the Fields’, owned by Penlee House, to his brighter, sunlight-infused landscapes made after his departure from Newlyn in 1897. The exhibition is accompanied by a specially commissioned book, written by Roo Gunzi and published by Truran Books.
