Date: Saturday July 23rd 2022
Venue: Goonhilly Earth Station, Trelowarren, The Lizard, Helston TR12 6AF
Goonhilly 60 is a one day family Festival celebrating the 60th anniversary of Goonhilly Earth Station, the UK’s gateway to space, with music, talks, workshops and more.
As the UK’s gateway to space, and the world’s only commercial Deep Space station – Goonhilly Earth Station has been instrumental to space exploration for six decades since the main dish. Arthur, received the first TV broadcast, via satellite, from the USA in 1962.
For one day only, Goonhilly 60 offers a rare and exciting opportunity to set foot on the historic site to enjoy an interstellar programme of curated music, talks and educational workshops, on the Orbit stage, for all the family – set amongst the satellite dishes and backdropped by Goonhilly vistas and the breath-taking beauty of the Lizard Peninsula.
More than just a music event, Goonhilly 60 encourages visitors to explore, educate and entertain, with spotlights on tech, science, interactive, and educational activities, workshops and displays.
If you love a spectacle, don’t miss the first outing of Spaceport Cornwall’s Virtual Reality Space Launch, or the night sky above the Orbit stage being lit up by Cornwall’s first drone swarm light show; soundtracked by The UK Pink Floyd Experience and Kaleidoscope Orchestra.
Goonhilly 60 is the latest project, hosted at Goonhilly Earth Station, from the team behind Apollo 50 – the successful one-day science, music and arts festival held at Goonhilly Earth Station in 2019, to mark the historic 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
