THE PICTURE ROOM AT NEWLYN ART GALLERY
SOLITUDE. A new collection of work, made especially for this show talks about Willow’s relationship to wild places, to solitude and the silence found in particular environments. Walking in The Seven mountain range in Bergen, she gathered a range of marks inspired by the landscape. They reflect an emptiness and transience familiar in her work. Influenced by Chinese watercolour painting, using black ink and brushes she has created loose free impressions of place, that become emotive and ephemeral. The marks are a reflection on her memories of a place and what can be felt and not seen. They also express Willow’s deep appreciation of lonely places and the beauty felt in momentary experiences.
