St Anthony Head

St Anthony Head is a picturesque headland stretching out into Carrack Roads at the southernmost tip of the Roseland Peninsula. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and immerse yourself in the Cornish landscape. Amble around the headland along the coastal path and take a picnic onto the secluded Great and Little Molunan beaches below, whilst taking in one of the best views on the Roseland. Panoramic views span from St Mawes harbour, across Carrack Roads towards Falmouth, and all the way out to the Lizard. Pack the binoculars, because this beautiful headland is home to an enormous spectrum of birdlife, including Peregrine Falcons, and is also a great vantage point from which to catch a glimpse of seals and dolphins! Aside from being a place of extraordinary beauty, St Anthony’s also has a lighthouse and a nineteenth century gun battery, which was rearmed during World War II.

There is a National Trust carpark with loo facilities on top of the headland. However, if you wish to explore the coastline further on foot, you can follow the coastal path along the cliffs from Towan, or, in summer, catch the Place Ferry from St Mawes, meeting the path as it winds behind St Anthony’s Church. There is a wonderful circular walk around the headland, linking Porth and Place along a quiet country lane.
