Fistral Beach
Fabulous Fistral
This is one of the best beaches – not just in Cornwall, but in the entire country.
The two headlands which flank this west-facing generous expanse of sand are perfect for channelling the Atlantic swells towards the shore. With beautiful sand dunes backed by high cliffs, it proves to be the perfect location for many major international and national surfing competitions. The beach has excellent lifeguard cover and is dog-friendly. The waves here are consistently good for surfers of all abilities and with a following wind you might see waves over six foot high.
Just offshore at Fistral is the Cribbar Reef, which has recorded monster 30ft waves and given its name to massive waves at other locations around the world. When conditions are right (time, tide, weather) it is simply magnificent. But it’s not for amateurs. That’s why it is dubbed the widow-maker.
We love...
This popular beach is a five-minute drive or a 20 minute walk from the centre of Newquay. There are plenty of shops and places in town or at the beach to eat as well as surf schools and equipment hire.
Don't miss...
Any of the impressive events at Fistral during the season from surfing and watersport competitions to the epic Boardmasters Festival in August which has a great music line-up alongside all the action in the water.
