Gwithian
One of the best beaches in Cornwall
With great views out over St Ives Bay, consistently excellent surfing conditions and an array of wildlife from common seals to sea birds, it's not hard to see why Gwithian, near Hayle, is widely regarded as one of Cornwall’s best beaches.
Consistent Atlantic swell makes surfing here great for everyone, from the beginners taking lessons with the local surf school, to seasoned pros who love the bigger waves towards Godrevy. Keen body boarders, wind and kite surfers will love the clear waters, clean sands and celebrated conditions here, too.
At low tide there’s plenty of room to spread out and find your own sandy spot. Enjoy a tranquil space on this unspoilt beach, or go exploring amongst the rock pools and caves with the kids. There’s lots of space to breathe, to relax and to play.
Get your supplies including food, books, groceries and beach toys at the Jam Pot Café (a converted 19th Century Coastguard lookout) or try a meal at the Rockpool Seafood Café Bar and Grill.
