Porth Beach

Porth Beach

Beautiful, long, sandy Porth Beach is sheltered by two facing headlands on the coast between Newquay and Watergate Bay.

The north-west facing beach benefits from Atlantic swells, but there is no summer surfing when Lifeguards are present (between 10am and 6pm) and there are no dogs allowed during the season. This, combined with the flat, golden sand and the rock pools exposed by low tide make Porth the perfect beach for families.

There is plenty of local parking and a level access to the beach. Nearby you will find cafes, a pub, surf shops and a local deli. At the eastern end of the beach is Porth Island, or Trevelgue Head, which was populated in the Bronze and Iron Ages. Several roundhouses on a settlement here were excavated in 1939 and it is now an Ancient Monument.

We love...

There are beautiful views from the coastline and the area is rich in wildlife with rabbits and wildflowers on the headland.

Don't miss...

Walk across to Porth Island over the short footbridge and gaze down into the blowhole which is also visible from the beach at mid tide.
