Porthcurno

One of the most beautiful bays in the world

Crystal clear turquoise water laps at soft, white sand made of crushed seashells. Multi-coloured parasols and windbreaks flutter in a light breeze.

Porthcurno beach is truly a paradise on earth and on a bright, sunny day it’s hard to remember you’re in Cornwall and not somewhere altogether more exotic.

Submerged beneath the sea at high tide, as the waves recede this arc of white sand draws visitors from far and wide to enjoy sun and fun. The cove’s position between two rugged headlands makes for a sheltered oasis.

Lifeguarded in the summer, Porthcurno is a safe place for kids to play and the clear, blue sea just invites you in for a swim. Dolphins and seals are often spotted off the coast here.

Adventurous types can explore the South West Coast Path and visit the 80-ton rocking stone at Logan Rock, or scour the coastline for more isolated beaches. Nearby Porth Chapel and Pedn Vounder are worth a look, but both require a clamber down the cliffs so access is only for the able bodied.
