Romantic and unforgettable

Fabulous Fowey... you can see why writers have drawn inspiration from its quirky streets and the magnificent river edged by magical woodland that runs through it.
Novelist Daphne du Maurier had a home at the water's edge, as did Cornish writer Arthur "Q" Quiller-Couch. And Kenneth Grahame dreamed of Toad, Ratty and The Wind in the Willows while staying here.

The town's heritage is celebrated in an annual festival of words and music in May. Fowey, with its architecture mainly unchanged by the passage of time, is a place with a real sense of character and, once visited, is never forgotten as its romance draws you back time and time again.

A must for shoppers visiting Cornwall, keen to find that quirky item for the home, or bookworms looking for entertainment or walkers who can stroll along the river and admire pretty villages along the way.

We love...

Sitting by the river and watching the world drift by… whether it’s a pint at the Galleon Inn, lunch at The Old Quay House, afternoon tea at The Fowey Hotel or supper at the Fowey Hall Hotel. All have spectacular views of the water.

Don't miss...

This is designated an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty. Leave the car and explore by foot, catching the passenger ferry to pretty Polruan – an unspoilt fishing village – or take the coast path to Polperro.
