Pendeen

Pendeen,
Penzance,
Cornwall
TR19

Located on the north Cornish coast halfway between Land’s End and St Ives, is the parish of Pendeen.

Steeped in history, Pendeen was once at the forefront of the Cornish mining industry and close by you’ll find the remains of Botallack Mine (now a popular Poldark film location) and Geevor Mine - one of the last working mines in Cornwall. Now a museum, Geevor houses the most complete range of mine buildings in Europe and you can experience the history first hand with an underground tour.

Pendeen’s iconic lighthouse was erected in 1900 to help guide boats away from the treacherous coast that it overlooks. In 1926 the oil lamp (now on display at the Trinity House National Lighthouse Centre in Penzance) was replaced with an electric bulb that beams light to a range of 16 nautical miles.

Explore the Penwith Peninsula by walking the coastal path from the lighthouse along rugged paths to the sandy shores of Sennen Cove. This 9-mile walk passes through one of the oldest mining districts in the county and offers great opportunities to see a range of wildlife and unmissable panoramic vistas along the way.
