St Mary's | Isles of Scilly

A gateway to paradise

Whether you arrive by flight or ferry your first sight of St Mary’s is unforgettable - the largest of the inhabited islands, an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to the Isles of Scilly Museum.

The capital is Hugh Town with its cluster of shops, restaurants and pubs. You’re never far from a view as this quaint little community is nestled between two fantastic beaches.
St Mary’s Quay is generally full of fishermen, sailors and activity lovers. If you fancy exploring the seabed on a glass bottom boat, taking a sea safari trip or hopping from island to island, this is the place to start.

With over 30 miles of footpaths, visitors are spoilt for choice for places to explore. Discover deserted sandy white beaches, rocky coves and amazing wildlife – or hire a kayak from Portmellon Beach and explore the island from the ocean!

Amble up to The Garrison, once the front line of England’s defences, and find secret tunnels and spectacular views. St Mary’s has plenty of ancient history too, with lots of evidence of Bronze and Iron Age settlement.

Don't miss...

The wildlife. Throughout the year there are chances to see puffins, dolphins, turtles and ocean sunfish – to name but a few!
