Located on the shores of Mounts Bay, Newlyn is the most southerly town in Britain with the largest fishing fleet in the country. It’s an entertaining mix of traditional industry and holiday resort - boasting a rich and eclectic history.
Newlyn was the last place in England The Mayflower stopped before her transatlantic voyage taking the Pilgrim Fathers to America. In the late 19th century the town was the home of, and inspiration for the Newlyn School of Painting - an impressionistic style of capturing the beauty of the Cornish landscape, recognised and admired throughout the world. It’s two most famous sons are Robert Hichens, who was at the wheel of the Titanic when it hit the iceberg and rugby player, Jack Nowell, current England full back and a prolific try scorer.
